Gallery: Tattooing Over Mastectomy Scars

At the National Tattoo Association convention in Reno, Mary Jane Haake and Vyvyn Lazonga (Madame Lazonga) gave individual seminars on tattooing used as cover-ups for mastectomies, C-sections and various other body scars. Vyvyn talked about the work she is doing with tattoos on partial and full mastectomies and Mary Jane explained how the surgeries are done, how to work in the scar tissue as opposed to normal tissue, how to do small tattoos to cover port scars and how to apply nipple/areola tattoos. She also put together a hand-out that tells how to bill insurance, needle groupings to use, the whole nuts and bolts of the operation. Here are some of Vyvyn’s photos (before and after) of the kind of work she and Mary Jane Haake are doing in the Seattle, Washington (  and Portland, Oregon ( areas. Click images to enlarge detail.

  1. The girl with the before-and-after with scars on her wrist definetly has a swastika cut into her arm.

  2. Your work is absolutely beautiful. I wish you were in the Milwaukee area. I want my mastectomy scars covered.
